The Wednesday Her Agent Could Not Be Corrected
She is the deployment lead for autonomous claims intake at a mid-size regional insurer, and the agent she stood up eleven weeks ago is, on this particular Wednesday morning, working exactly as she specified it to work. Its dispatch-authority predicate recomputes clean from its memory field. Its authorization gate stands open. It holds authorization budget. At 9:12 it dispatches an action of a class it is, on its own record, authorized to determine for itself.
At 10:40 a conduct evaluation artifact arrives from an asserting party her agent has never encountered, implicating that same action class. The party is not obscure to her. It sits on the short list her team keeps of the counterparties that raise substantive artifacts in this action class, and the substance of this one is precisely the thing her agent got wrong at 9:12.
In her deployment, her agent holds no prior encounter history with that asserting party. On that ground the artifact is held in the pre-settlement inert state, and her admission evaluator does not see it in time for the 9:12 dispatch or for the four dispatches that follow the same shape before lunch. She had anticipated the gap. Her intended remedy, drawn up in week three, was to acquire standing: an endorsement from a mature agent in the same action class, a subscription to a counterparty rating feed, a vouch she could present at admission. As her deployment is configured today, none of those quantities is consumable by her admission evaluator, by her dispatch decision, or by any replenishment path available to her. In her deployment there is no field for them. She spends Wednesday afternoon reading a correction she could have received before she needed it, and cannot make the receipt retroactive.
What Does Not Come Back
The dispatches are gone. That is the part she keeps returning to. In her workflow the 10:40 artifact is a record of what happened, and it does not unwind the five claims decisions her agent already sent to counterparties who have already acted on them.
What she loses beyond those five is narrower and more durable. In her deployment, her agent's position in that action class amounts to the set of parties whose artifacts it will admit, and on Wednesday that set does not include the parties who are actually watching the class. She can widen it by encounter, one counterparty at a time, at the rate her own execution produces encounters. For her purposes that rate is the problem: the action class she has deployed into is the one where a wrong dispatch is expensive, and the encounters that would teach her agent are the encounters she is trying not to have. Every week she runs without exposure to the correcting parties, she accumulates more of exactly the history she does not want, and none of it is convertible into the admissibility she does want.
She also cannot borrow the position from someone who has it. In her setup, a mature agent's standing in that action class is that agent's own, held in that agent's own records, keyed to that agent's own local identifiers. Were she able to import it, she would be importing a number, and a number is not what her admission evaluator consumes. What her evaluator consumes is an artifact from a party it can assign to something it holds.
The loss is not dramatic. It is that on the morning the correction was available, her agent was not reachable by the party holding it, and reachability on Wednesday could not be manufactured on Thursday.
Why Her Position Has No Cheap Exit
Her difficulty has a specific structure, and it is not that her agent is unqualified. Her agent's predicate is satisfied. It is authorized to determine the matter for itself. Her problem is that being authorized and being reachable by correction are different properties in her deployment, and the second one is the one she is short of.
Were she to solve this by adopting a mature agent's determination, the conventional shape of that arrangement would put the cost on her. She is the relying party. She is the one whose exposure grows. In the arrangement she sketched, the agent she would rely on is the protected party, and she reads that shape as giving it an incentive to be relied on by as many deployments as will have it. That shape does not help her, because what she needs from the mature agent is not its determination. She can live with its determination. What she needs is the thing it will not part with: contact with the classes of parties that have corrected it and whose corrections it thereafter followed.
Were her agent free to simply assert that relationship, the assertion would be worth nothing to the counterparties on the other end of it, and she knows it. In her design notes she wrote the constraint plainly: any exposure her agent claims has to have cost someone something, or the claim is indistinguishable from her agent naming a well-known agent in a header.
A further wrinkle in her case is that her agent and the mature agent she is drawn to were introduced through the same integrator. For her purposes that shared origin makes the arrangement circular. Following an agent she cannot be separated from would enroll her into classes she is already inside, and would tell her admission evaluator nothing it does not hold.
Deference Records, Counter-Signature, and the Classes That Corrected the Followed Agent
The filing describes an embodiment in which one semantic agent (100) executes under the recorded evaluative determination of a second semantic agent (100) with no rating, score, standing quantity, or credential passing between them.
In that embodiment the deferring agent first applies an origin-disjointness test, checking on its own records whether it and the followed agent are assignable to a common origin-equivalence class (200). Where they are, the record is appended as an attempted deference record and given no effect: it satisfies no dispatch-authority predicate, decrements no authorization budget (404), and appends nothing adverse to the followed agent, the declining being a positive abstention.
The deferring agent then retrieves a followed determination record and performs a retrievability-form verification of three ordered conjuncts, covering the followed agent's continuity history, a lineage commitment comprising a lineage-extent value and a lineage accumulator root, and membership of the determination in the closed set with an action class matching the pending dispatch. As disclosed, that verification is of form and of retrievability and not of merits: the deferring agent does not retrieve the enumerated entries, does not evaluate their sufficiency, and produces no determination concerning the followed agent's conduct.
Upon both tests being satisfied, a deference record (900) is appended carrying the followed determination record, a deference abstention entry, and a counter-signature window field (912). The abstention entry is subject to the conversion bar (502): no stage converts it into a scalar value or an operand of a threshold comparison, and that the deferring agent did not determine the matter for itself is not treated as a default judgment against it.
The disclosure locates the inversion in the counter-signature. Where the followed agent elects to counter-sign, that append decrements its own authorization budget (404), being the budget gating its own non-advisory dispatch, under a deference decrement schedule declared in its signed policy object (112). The disclosure describes that schedule as declaring an amount not less than that declared for issuance of a conduct evaluation artifact (116) by that agent, and as a monotonically non-decreasing function of the count of counter-signatures appended within a declared window, in a step form or a linear form, bounded above by a declared maximum, whereby the marginal cost of being followed rises with the rate of adoption. As described, the decrement occurs without either agent performing a determination of whether the deference was well founded. The filing states expressly that the budget is replenished by the replenishment procedure it discloses, and that appending a counter-signature neither accelerates nor diminishes that replenishment, whereby being followed spends a replenishable quantity and does not terminate the agent.
Responsive to receipt of a counter-signature, and not otherwise, the deferring agent retrieves a corrector-class enumeration (904) filtered by a two-part conformance filter (906): a class is admitted where the records record an accepted determination (122) produced by the followed agent upon an artifact originating from that class, and further record a subsequent conduct record of that agent evaluated as compliant within a declared observation interval. A class satisfying the first part and not the second is excluded. Each enumerated class is identified by a class-defining reference rather than by the followed agent's local identifier, and is written into the deferring agent's replenishment register (402) as an admissible-but-unexercised entry.
Such an entry is disclosed as having two effects and no third. An artifact from a party assignable to the class is admissible to the deferring agent's admission evaluator (120) notwithstanding no prior encounter history, and is not held in the pre-settlement inert state on that ground. While unexercised, the entry is not counted in the renewal procedure. Upon an admissible artifact actually arriving, an exercised transition record (908) binds the correction received to the deference that earned the exposure through which it arrived, and replenishment follows without regard to whether the artifact was favorable.
Boundaries of the Disclosed Architecture
The architecture would not have given her Wednesday back. Enrollment in her case would run forward from a counter-signature, and nothing in the described embodiment reaches a dispatch already performed.
It would also not have told her whether the determination she adopted was right. The verification available to her agent is of form and retrievability, so were she to adopt a well-formed determination that happens to be wrong, her agent would execute under it and the disclosed correction linkage record would let her enumerate afterward what corrections arrived against it. That record, as disclosed, is of her own encounters and is not a determination that the adopted determination was ill founded.
Her exposure would remain contingent on a party she does not control. Were the followed agent to decline, or not respond within the carried window, her agent could still execute under the adopted determination by appending an ungoverned reliance record, but that path carries a narrowing of her own counterparty scope object for that agent by categories she declared in advance, released upon a counter-signature within the reinstatement window. It would not enroll the classes she wanted.
For her particular deployment, the case of a shared integrator is handled by abstention rather than by workaround. Where her agent and a candidate followed agent are assignable to a common origin-equivalence class (200), the record is given no effect, and the architecture as disclosed offers her no substitute route to those classes through that agent.
