The correction that stops at the deferring agent's own record
Section 9 of U.S. Provisional Application No. 64/117,812 discloses a mechanism by which one semantic agent (100) executes under the recorded evaluative determination of a second semantic agent (100) with no rating, score, standing quantity, or credential passing between them. A deference record (900) transmitted for counter-signature decrements the followed agent's own authorization budget (404), being the budget gating that agent's own non-advisory dispatch, without regard to the merits. The deferring agent thereupon enrolls into its own replenishment register (402) the origin-equivalence classes (200) recorded as having corrected the followed agent and to whose corrections it thereafter conformed.
Adoption is priced at the counter-signature. When a correction later reaches the deferring agent through the exposure it enrolled, Section 9.9 has that agent append a deference correction linkage record keyed on the adopted determination, a record the filing states is of the deferring agent's own encounters and sits in the lineage of the agent that adopted.
The filing's background sets out the conventional route for carrying downstream outcomes back to a party others rely on, being a score computed by a reputation or trust system and held at a registry, a scoring authority, or a shared ledger. Section 9.5 forecloses that route: no standing quantity, rating, weight, or count of adoptions consumable by any admission or dispatch decision is maintained, and no count of counter-signatures is compared against a threshold.
Section 9.1 states that the mechanism inverts the direction in which cost and exposure conventionally flow, the metered consequence falling upon the followed agent rather than the relying party, and that a design attenuating only downward, or treating adoption as costless to the adopted, teaches away from it. Paragraph [0444] supplies the step by which a downstream correction reaches the followed agent with no quantity created to carry it.
Constructing the record, then emitting it
Enrollment comes first. Under Section 9.8 the deferring agent retrieves a corrector-class enumeration (904) computed under a two-part conformance filter (906), which admits a class only where the presented records record both that it corrected the followed agent in that action class and that the followed agent thereafter conformed within an observation interval. The agent appends an exposure edge record (910) naming the followed agent's identity primitive, the deference counter-signature (902), the deference record (900), the action class, the enumeration with each class-defining reference, and the failing filter part for each excluded class. Section 9.9 writes each enumerated class into the agent's own replenishment register (402) as an admissible-but-unexercised entry keyed on the class-defining reference, its exercise field unexercised.
Such an entry has two effects and no third. For admissibility, a conduct evaluation artifact (116) from an asserting party (118) assignable to the class carried reaches the deferring agent's admission evaluator (120) despite no prior encounter history, and is not held in the pre-settlement inert state on that ground. For renewal, the entry is not counted in the procedure of Section 4.5 while unexercised.
Assignability runs an ordered test: direct membership, where the arriving party's identity primitive appears in the enumeration carried in the class-defining reference; definition membership, where the defining member carried is satisfied against the deferring agent's own records under the relation-type designator carried; and, upon plurality, transition of the entry earliest written, each further assignable entry being named in the exercised transition record (908) without being transitioned. Where no test is satisfied, a non-assignable-arrival record is appended, no entry is transitioned, and no authorization budget (404) is replenished.
On a satisfied test and an admissible artifact, the deferring agent appends the exercised transition record (908), which names the entry transitioned, the exposure edge record (910), and the identifier of the determination adopted, binding the correction received to the deference that earned the exposure through which it arrived. By the same append the deference correction linkage record is appended, comprising the identifier of the arriving artifact, the determination the deferring agent's own admission evaluator (120) produced upon it, the identifier of the adopted determination, the identity primitive of the followed agent, the deference record (900) and the deference counter-signature (902), and the conformity outcome recorded for the deferring agent's subsequent conduct record. Keyed on the adopted determination, it lets that agent enumerate each correction thereafter received through the exposure enrolled upon that deference.
Paragraph [0444] adds the emission. The deferring agent emits the linkage record to the followed agent as a governed observation, whereby that agent records that a party which adopted its determination was thereafter corrected upon the matter adopted. The filing recites the emission as a non-adverse outcome carrying no determination concerning the followed agent, requesting nothing of it, and decrementing no authorization budget (404).
Under the general form of Section 6.1, emission is complete upon emission, requiring no acknowledgment, no handshake, no delivery confirmation, and no registration with a central authority, and a receiving party verifies the authority credential and continuity hash field against records in its own memory field (102), recording the verification and any failing element in the append-only lineage field (104). The deference record itself is the first governed observation (608) of a matched pair (600), the counter-signature the second (610).
The conversion bar (502) travels with the record. Neither the linkage record nor a count of such records held for a followed agent is converted into a scalar value, a default value, a rating, or an operand of a threshold comparison, and no admission decision and no dispatch decision consumes such a count as a standing quantity. Section 5.4 discloses that bar as an affirmative foreclosure rather than an absence of defined behavior, realized by a type discipline under which an outcome entry and a magnitude are values of disjoint types with no total function mapping one to the other. Section 9.9 adds that the linkage record produces no determination concerning the followed agent, is not a determination that the adopted determination was ill founded, increments no counter of that agent, and appends nothing adverse to it.
Declared windows, and the values left to policy
Paragraph [0444] recites no numeric value. The governed observation form carries a time-to-live field encoding a validity duration, for which the filing declares no value here.
The parameters conditioning the path to the emission are policy-declared, each carried in a signed policy object (112), and the filing states no figure for any:
- The observation interval within which the followed agent's subsequent conduct record is evaluated for conformity, being that declared for the action class in the deferring agent's own policy object, and otherwise the followed agent's where not longer than a declared maximum.
- The window an entry stands in the replenishment register (402) before expiry, governing whether a class is absent from that register at the append.
- The counter-signature window and the reinstatement window, carried in the counter-signature window field (912) of the deference record (900) as transmitted and as counter-signed.
- The enrollment window on whose expiry an entry still at the unexercised value is written to a lapsed value and ceases to confer admissibility.
Three consequences here are conditioned rather than automatic, the filing stating the condition in each case. Replenishment of the deferring agent's authorization budget (404) upon the append occurs where the class is absent from the replenishment register (402) for the declared window. The emission presupposes an artifact that satisfied the ordered assignability test. And the action class remains an untested class carrying the short decay constant where the deferring agent has recorded no complied corrective encounter in that class.
Figures do appear for the deference decrement schedule of Section 9.5, a monotonically non-decreasing function of the count of counter-signatures the followed agent appended within a declared window, bounded above by a declared maximum. In one embodiment the base amount is one unit and the increment one quarter of one unit, so the first counter-signature within the window costs one unit and the fifth costs two. That schedule governs the counter-signature; the emission decrements no authorization budget (404).
Where the emission sits among the filed sections
Section 9 names its dependencies: Section 2 supplies the origin-equivalence class (200); Section 4 the authorization budget (404), the replenishment register (402), and the replenishment procedure; Section 5 the conversion bar (502); Section 6 the matched pair (600).
Section 10.7 discloses a cross-boundary record running the other way. Under the adopted-determination supersession record, where the followed agent appends a superseding or retracting determination upon the artifact named in a deference record (900) it counter-signed, it emits that fact to the deferring agent, whereupon that record satisfies no dispatch-authority predicate for a further dispatch, which requires a fresh counter-signature and a fresh decrement of the followed agent's authorization budget (404). That supersession increments no counter of either agent, replenishes no authorization budget (404), and is non-adverse as to both.
Section 10.2 recites the metering machinery separately. There the rate at which an action class's authorization quantity depletes is an inverse function of the count of corrective encounters recorded in the agent's own append-only lineage field (104) for that class with which it subsequently complied, the count that lengthens the decay constant being computed per origin-equivalence class (200) of the correcting parties. Section 9.9 states that an artifact received through an enrolled exposure is the deferring agent's own corrective encounter and not the followed agent's, and Section 10.7 that a deference records no corrective encounter of the deferring agent, advances no compliance count, and does not lengthen that decay constant.
One further mechanism of the same section reaches a dispatch-authority predicate: under the standing-determination designation, the conjunct that would otherwise require an accepted determination (122) from the agent's own admission evaluator (120) becomes satisfiable by a verified counterparty determination within the designated action class, the filing confining that substitution to that one conjunct while the policy stamp, the lineage stamp, and the authorization stamp each remain computed by the agent and non-substitutable.
Distinguishing the neighboring art
The filing's background identifies several established bodies of work, each distinguished structurally rather than by quality.
Reputation and trust systems. These compute a score from ratings or observations supplied by other entities and expose it to parties deciding whether to transact, the score residing at a registry, a scoring authority, or a shared ledger while the scored entity neither holds it nor participates in its computation. Defenses against unfair ratings, exemplified by the TRAVOS trust model and beta-reputation filtering, screen ratings before aggregation to protect the stored score, which is what the conversion bar (502) forecloses here.
Capability attenuation on the forward path. Attenuation schemes such as macaroons confine what a delegate may do by appending caveats along a delegation's forward path, protect the owner of the delegated resource, and operate in that direction only. Section 9.1 addresses the point expressly, placing the metered consequence upon the followed agent at counter-signature.
Revocation and supersession channels. External revocation systems issue and withdraw credentials from an identity provider or control plane, terminating an agent's ability to act by an act of the controlling authority. The filing places the corresponding function in a distinct object, the adopted-determination supersession record, which does change what a deference record (900) authorizes. The emission carries no such determination.
Auditor-held findings and remote attestation. Accountability protocols such as PeerReview prove node misbehavior from tamper-evident logs, evidence being collected by witness nodes and verified by third parties, and remote attestation architectures such as RFC 9334 locate appraisal in a verifier and the grant or denial of authority in a relying party. Here the receiving agent records the fact itself, and the record produces no determination concerning it.
Feedback into training and evaluation pipelines. Preference judgments from human raters are aggregated across a population and applied offline in a training procedure, and evaluation harnesses record traces, cluster failures, and terminate in a ticket, a dashboard entry, or a curated dataset. Both routes accumulate outcomes away from the evaluated agent, and the conversion bar operates at the level of representation, so such accumulation is foreclosed rather than merely undefined.
Disclosure Scope
This article describes subject matter disclosed in U.S. Provisional Application No. 64/117,812, at Section 10.7, paragraph [0444], titled emission of the deference correction linkage record to the followed agent, together with the base disclosure at Section 9.9, paragraphs [0323] through [0326], the enrollment procedure of Section 9.8, the merit-independent decrement of Section 9.5, the conversion bar (502) of Section 5, and the governed observation form of Section 6.1.
Every mechanism, record composition, negative limitation, and reference numeral above is drawn from that filed application. Where the filing declares a parameter without a value, this article says so, and where a consequence is conditioned, the condition is stated with it.
Publication is defensive. It places the mechanism in the public record with a fixed date so that the structure described, emission of a downstream correction record to a followed agent as a governed observation subject to the conversion bar, is available as prior art against later filings. Nothing here grants a license under any pending or issued claim, and nothing here asserts that any third party practices the disclosed subject matter.
